UK, Turkey Strengthen Defense Ties with Eurofighter Typhoon Support Deal

(MENAFN) The UK and Türkiye have signed a new agreement focused on the maintenance and operational support of Eurofighter Typhoon jets, marking a further step in strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries, as stated by reports.

The deal was concluded in London during talks between Turkish National Defense Minister Yasar Guler and British Defense Secretary John Healey. It centers on providing technical and logistical support for the aircraft within the Eurofighter Typhoon Project, according to statements.

In addition to finalizing the agreement, both officials also discussed broader areas of defense collaboration during their meeting. Reports noted that a separate contract covering the purchase of aircraft, equipment, and munitions related to the program had already been signed last October.

The newly signed arrangement is designed to support the long-term upkeep and operational readiness of the fighter jets. Both sides emphasized their intention to continue enhancing defense cooperation in the years ahead.

Previously, Türkiye agreed to an £8 billion ($10.7 billion) deal with the UK to acquire 20 Eurofighter Typhoon jets. Britain, a key partner in the program, has been a strong supporter of the sale, which followed extended negotiations after Türkiye resolved a German objection in 2024.
